Everything starts at 6:00 a.m. at the WYO Sports Ranch, where you can wait indoors with real restrooms until a cannon blast sends the field off. You are already at 5,310 feet, so the air is thin and dry, and the course drifts gently downhill to 5,187 feet at the finish in Crossroads Park. Most of the route follows the Platte River Trails system on asphalt, where the organizers promise views of Wyoming wildlife along the water. The field is tiny, fewer than 100 marathon finishers in 2026, so expect long stretches alone and treat the aid stations every two to four miles as your company. The finish line closes at 12:30 p.m., headphones are banned on the city-street sections, and early-bird pricing runs through December 31, 2026, so there is no reason to wait.

Worth knowing
  • The Casper Marathon was started in 2002 by members of the local running group, the Windy City Striders, and the organizers describe it as the fastest-growing running event in Wyoming; it hosted the RRCA State Championship race in 2025. ↗
  • The course starts at 5,310 feet and finishes at 5,187 feet, with 90 percent asphalt and 10 percent concrete, aid stations roughly every two miles and views of Wyoming's wildlife along the Platte River Trails system. ↗
  • Races begin with a traditional cannon-fire start at the WYO Sports Ranch, which has indoor facilities and restrooms, and finish at Crossroads Park; the full marathon course is certified so it can be used as a Boston qualifier. ↗
  • For 2027 the race is being 'reimagined' with a full weekend of racing; headphones are not allowed on city streets, and strollers and dogs are not allowed in the marathon or half. ↗
  • findmymarathon counts 89 marathon finishers in 2026, 110 in 2025 and 93 in 2024, with 2.3 percent of 2026 finishers running a Boston qualifying time. ↗
