The Providence Marathon now begins across the water in East Providence, at Bold Point Park, where the Providence skyline sits in front of you as the sun comes up over Narragansett Bay. You cross the Linear Park bridge into India Point Park, then climb gently into the East Side for an up-and-back along Blackstone Boulevard, a wide, tree-lined street where neighbors stand in front of old clapboard houses with coffee mugs. The Henderson Bridge takes you back over the Seekonk River, and the long middle miles loop out around the Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington. The best part comes last: the East Bay Bike Path, shaded by trees, flat and quiet, with the bay glinting through the branches on your right. It is a steady, honest course with a six-hour limit, and a Boston qualifier if you want it to be.
Starts and finishes at Bold Point Park, crossing the Linear Park bridge into India Point Park, running an up-and-back on tree-lined Blackstone Boulevard, crossing the Henderson Bridge into East Providence, looping the Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington and returning on the shaded East Bay Bike Path.
